,1 r L f TUESDAY AUGUST 12, 1969 ......-- WHRERAS, Martinsville City Council conducted a duly-advertised public hearing on said petition at the Council's regular meeting held August 12, 1969, at which hearing no one registered any objections to said requested closing; now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twelfth day of August, 1969, that--in acceptance of the reports and recommendations of both the Martinsville Planning Commission and the said Board of Viewers--it doth hereby order the discontinuance and abandonment of said segment of Griggs Street; and BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that a copy of this ordinance, accompanied by petitioner's map relating thereto, be forthwith filed with the Clerk of the Corporation Court of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, as authorization and directive to said Clerk to mark his records accordingly. Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on the Planning Commission's recommended (July 3, 1969) revisions of the City's Zoning Ordinance, pertaining to "marquees", etc., that--with the revisions--the Zoning Ordinance might parallel similar provisions in the Building Code. There being no objections registered by anyone to the proposed revisions, Council adopted the following ordinance amending the Zoning Ordinance to effect said recommended revisions: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twelfth day of August, 1969, that the following sections of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and are hereby--amended to include the following: SECTION II - Definitions (Insert the following between "Lot, through" and "Motel") Marquee. Any fixed canopy or other covered structure, other than a projecting sign, which is structurally a part of a building, pro- jecting from and wholly supported by the building and extending beyong the building wall. SECTION VI - Dimension Regulations (To subsection "B. General", paragraph "2.", add the following) In the C-2 and C-3 districts, marquees, fixed and movable awnings may project over the required front yard and over a publicly-owned sidewalk space for two-thirds the width of such sidewalk space but not closer than three feet to the curb-face adjacent to the street.
