<br />:}O <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 12, 1969 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, August <br /> <br />12, 1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis T. West; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meetings held July 8, 1969 and July 22, 1969. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on Sale Knitting Company's petition (filed July 8, 1969) requesting the closing <br /> <br />and vacating of the remaining segment of Griggs Street lying within the confines <br /> <br />of petitioner's property, east side of Franklin Street, which has not previously <br /> <br />been closed. No one appeared to register any objections to the proposed closing <br /> <br />and, furthermore, a duly-constituted Board of Viewers report in writing that--in <br /> <br />its opinion--no inconvenience would result to anyone by the discontinuing and <br /> <br />vacating of said segment. Whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried, Council accepted the reports and recollIDlendations of both the Planning <br /> <br />COllIDlission and the Board of Viewers and, further, effected the requested closing <br /> <br />through adoption of the following ordinance: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by petition filed with Martinsville City Council at its regular <br />meeting held July 8, 1969, Sale Knitting Company, Inc., through its <br />Counsel, requested the closing and vacating of that portion of Griggs <br />Street which lies within the confines of petitioner's property, off <br />Franklin Street, and (which portion) constitutes the remaining segment <br />within said property not heretofore closed and vacated; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under date of July 22, 1969, the Martinsville Planning COllIDlission, <br />having duly considered said petition, recollIDlended that petitioner's request <br />be granted; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under date of August 12, 1969, a duly-constituted Board of Viewers <br />reported, that in its oplnlon, no inconvenience would result to anyone by <br />the discontinuing and vacating of said street segment; and <br />
