After some discussion, <br /> <br />and upon motion, Council unanimously accepted the Planning Commission's <br /> <br />recommendation on this matter and, therefore, effected said rezoning by <br /> <br />means of the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code and Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-fifth day <br />of February, 1969, that the City's Zoning Code and Zoning <br />Map be, and are hereby, amended to reclassify--for zoning <br />purposes--to "P_2 Professional" that property located at <br />413 East Church Street and owned by Mr. Lawrence N. Rorrer. <br /> <br />In continuing its consideration of traffic conditions at the intersection <br /> <br />of Mulberry Road-Spruce Street-Jefferson Street, Council received--from <br /> <br />Traffic & Planning Engineer Irving R. McGhee and Public Works Director <br /> <br />George W. Brown--a plan to widen and improve this intersection as well as <br /> <br />to provide additional traffic lanes for certain distances along Mulberry <br /> <br />Road approaching the intersection, at an estimated cost of $2,650.00 to <br /> <br />be absorbed in the Street Division's budget. Upon motion, Council <br /> <br />authorized the proceeding with the effecting of this plan, tentatively <br /> <br />scheduled during the Spring of 1969. Meanwhile, Mr. McGhee informed <br /> <br />Council that the recommended "stop-sign" at Ford and Depot Streets has <br /> <br />been installed, with permission of the C&NW Railway Company. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission--for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation--a petition from the City1s Electric Department for a <br /> <br />"special-use" permit to allow the Electric Department to construct an <br /> <br />electric sub-station on the rear portion of property formerly identified <br /> <br />as the "EaSley property", at 600 Starling Avenue, or the southwest corner <br /> <br />of Starling Avenue and Aaron Street. <br />
