..) ~l
..J "-_,

TUESDAY

MAY 14. 1968

It ~s noted by said Council that the intended usage of this property is
for the operation of a "7-11" store and that petitioner for rezoning
(viz., Mr. Stafford G. Whittle, III) has indicated cooperation on his
part toward providing right-of-way for a traffic l1turn-lane" if such
ItLJ.rn-lane" is deemed by the City as being necesaary and the conveyance
of right-of-way or easement therefor permits sufficient land residue to
contain the intended usage in accordance with applicable City regulations.

City Man&ger Noland reported receipt of a letter from the Virginia Department

of Highways, stating its position upon Council's request that the Department

consider an extension of the approved Route 57-Northside Drive project to

connect same at a new location with Route 58 East. The Department advised

that no consideration could be given at this time to Council's request because

of the lack of funds for the extension, of which the City's estimated cost-

share currently would be $525,000.00. City Manager Noland pointed out, too,

other needs to develop the City's Thoroughfare Street Program, recommending

that the City reserve and accrue funds as expediently as possible to enable

the City to be in a position to finance the costs of the program as it develops.

Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the executing

of a sewer line easement involving replacement of a sewer line across the property

of Continental Can Company, in the Jones Creek Area.

In receiving a financial statement covering the operations of City Transit

Company, involving City-owned busses leased to this firm, for the twelve-month

period ended February 28, 1968, and in which report a new income of $1,256.05

was shown, Council discussed with management of this firm the possibility

and/or probable need of' increasing rates or fares in order to provide sufficient

income in the future for reserve for replacement of busses.

...._--_..._~'_..,...,._-~._----_..~,_.._---,~"-~-_."._----"-_._--,_._--_..,_.._.-.,._,.~..- ".,-----
