<br />f } ~/) <br />~ ,.} A.J <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 23. 1968 <br /> <br />Upon inquiry of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the installation <br /> <br />of approximately fifty parking meters to be used to regulate vehicular <br /> <br />parking on a portion of the parking area around the new Municipal Building <br /> <br />soon to be occupied. Council, too, discussed plans for the l'Open House" <br /> <br />scheduled the afternoons of May 11th and May 12th to observe completion <br /> <br />and occupancy of the new Municipal Building. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council appointed the <br /> <br />accounting firm of William Z. Ford & Company to conduct the City's forth- <br /> <br />coming 1967-68 audit. A substitute motion, to appoint Mr. Lawrence Rorrer <br /> <br />to conduct this audit, failed for lack of a IIsecond". <br /> <br />Pursuant to conditions set forth in 1966, Council authorized (by "special- <br /> <br />use permitll)the Martinsville-Henry County Fair & Exposition to conduct its <br /> <br />1968 Fair & Exposition on property known as 11 Li berty Heights" the week of <br /> <br />September 2nd-7th. <br /> <br />A renewal of petition filed in 1967, for the widening and construction of <br /> <br />curb-and-gutter on Peters Street, was referred to Public Works Director <br /> <br />George W. Brown for study and review to ascertain whether conditions are <br /> <br />now such as to permit the qualification of this project for consideration. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its study and recommendation, <br /> <br />a petition filed by a number of owners of property along Ellsworth Street, <br /> <br />between East Church Street and Brown Street, requesting the rezoning of <br /> <br />property fronting both sides of this street (within the block) from "P-2" <br /> <br />and "R-6" to "C-2". <br />
