, \ !
.. t -1'

TUESDAY

DECEMBER 12. 1967

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council agreed to--and

authorized--the extension of an option between the City and Childress-West, Inc.,

from the original terminal date of December 15, 1967, to December 27, 1967,

covering the offer of said Childress-West, Inc., to sell to the City--for the

sum of $12,500.00--that property located at the southwest corner of the inter-

section of Brown and Ellsworth Streets, further identified as "Lot No.3 of Map

of O. D. Ford Subdivision". It was noted that acquisition of this property by

the City would provide right-of-way at this point for the proposed street

extending westward from Mulberry Extension. It was also noted that procedures

have been followed and will be followed by which--if and when the Virginia

Department of Highways includes this project in a "participating" program--said

Highway Department might reimburse the City for the Highway Department's participating

share of the cost or might credit the City's account for the participating share.

On behalf of himself and Messrs. Martin J. Lester and Ralph C. Lester as partners

in the ownership (in the name of Ralph C. Lester) of Lots Nos. 6, 7, and 8 facing

an abandoned section of Cheshire Street on the north side of Memorial Boulevard,

Mr. Earle W. Greene appeared before Council in support of said owners' offer to

exchange some 736 square feet of Lot No. 8 for the triangular tract owned by the

City, consisting of some 2,420 square feet, between the Boulevard and Lots Nos. 6

and 7, with consideration of $400.00 to be paid to the City and with the under-

standing that the partnership will grant to the City additional setback

restrictions of fifteen feet (see Mr. Ralph C. Lesterfs letter of November 24,

1967). After some discussion, Council unanimously accepted said offer.

Council was informed that, as a result of--or coincident with--the constructing

of Memorial Boulevard several years ago, the Salem Street entrance thereto was

relocated and, consequently, left the "old" entrance projection between Manilla
