lGG

TUESDAY

MAY 9. 1967

Upon recommendation of Wiley & Wilson, Consulting Engineers, Council accepted

the (low) bid of $78,146.00 recently submitted by Capitol City Iron Works for

furnishing and installing steel covers for the City's "uncovered" water

storage tanks and for such other items made a part of the invitation for bids.

In connection with the business license tax refund request recently filed by

Mr. Warren Norman and considered by Council at its April 25th meeting,

involving Mr. Norman's service station discontinued December 31, 1965, Council

determined that the City would not refund any license tax in this case nor

would it seek to assess any additional license tax on this firm's gross receipts

not included in previous license tax payments.

Pursuant to its action of April 11, 1967, and upon receipt of deed prepared

in accordance therewith, Council authorized Mayor Renick to execute such deed

by which the City conveys to the Norfolk & Western Railway Company right-of-way

for the railway company's "siding" or track to serve Continental Can Company's

new plant in the City's Industrial Park.

At the request of Sale Knitting Company, Council deferred action on Sale

Knitting Company's petition (not yet presented) to close, abandon, and vacate

a portion of Roy Street.

Having recently received complaints from pronerty owners within the Spruce

Street-Jefferson Circle area as to the unkffiPt condition of the Mason Estate

lot within said area, Council directed that in this instance--as well as in

similar instances elsewhere in the City--the provisions of Section 7.2 of

the City Code be enforced.
