<br />16 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 9. 1967 <br /> <br />Under date of May 9, 1967, City Manager Noland presented his recommended City <br /> <br />budget, accompanied by the Manager1s Budget Message, for the fiscal year ending <br /> <br />June 30, 1968, in the total sum of $7,971,272.09, which Council received for <br /> <br />study. <br /> <br />By letter, the Henry County Board of Supervisors expressed appreciation of the <br /> <br />Council's recent offer of assistance in connection with the Supervisors' <br /> <br />planning for new courthouse-and-jail facilities. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council of the recent appointment of Mr. Thomas <br /> <br />J. Burch--by the Martinsville Corporation Court--as a member of the City's 1967 <br /> <br />Board of Equalization, thus enabling the Board to continue functioning during <br /> <br />the absence (and illness) of its Chairman, Mr. J. Robert Walker. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland also informed Council of the status of study being given <br /> <br />to the matter of "outside" storage of refrigerators and other appliances, and <br /> <br />the unsightly conditions thereof, as discussed by Council during its April 25th <br /> <br />meeting. <br /> <br /><",...--. <br /> <br />Mr. William U. Starkey, Manager of the local Southwestern Virginia Gas Company, <br /> <br />notified Council that his firm has filed with the State Corporation Commission <br /> <br />a revised tariff which, if approved, will result in some reduction in the cost <br /> <br />of natural gas supplied by Southwestern to its large customers. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />'"' <br /> <br /> <br />w. lt~~~:"-Clerk of Council <br />
