150

TUESDAY

MARCH 14. 1967

By report dated March 13, 1967, the City Planning Commission advised Council

that Mr. Patrick H. Fussell's recent (February 14th) request for permission

to extend the Cityfs (water and sewer) utilities into a subdivision known

as "Vernon Hills Estate", off Spruce Street Extended and in Henry County,

meets the design standards as established in the Subdivision Ordinance for

subdivisions inside the City. The Commission, furthermore, submitted the

following recommendations:

1. That Council require the establishment of covenants on the

property which would in effect zone the property as "R-9 Residential"

inasmuch as the property in question is contiguous to "R-9

Re sidential" zoning within the City; and

2. That Council require the developer to conform to the City's

Building Code and other applicable ordinances.

Council unanimously accepted the Commission's report and recommendations.

Mr. J. H. Baldwin, on behalf of Dr. D. O. Baldwin and the Baldwin Development

Company, appeared before Council and requested that property identified as

the "Coleman" property on Fayette Street be rezoned to an appropriate

industrial classification to permit the location and operation of a textile

industry at said location. Council referred this request to the Planning

Commission for its consideration and recommendation.

Council also referred to the Planning Commission an application from the

Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company (Mr. Robert L. Draper, Chairman of its

Bazaar Committee) for a special-use permit (under item "9" of Paragraph "C"

of Section VIII of the Zoning Ordinance) to conduct the Volunteer Fire

Company's 1967 (June 26th-July 1st) Bazaar at Brown Street Field.
