15

TUESDAY

MARCH 14. 1967

,-

By petition, a number of citizens residing along Clearview Drive, east or

northeast of the intersection with Barrows Mill Road, requested scheduled bus

service for this section of Clearview Drive to the City's corporate limits

thereon. Council suggested that City Manager Noland relay this request to

City Transit Company, operator of the local public bus system.

City Manager Noland presented, for Council's consideration and study, a copy

of the 1965 edition of the "Southern Standard HOUsing Code" as published by

the Southern Building Code Congress, pursuant to recent discussions by Council

of the question of adopting a minimum standard housing code.

Mayor Renick informed Council of concern recently expressed by local industrial

officials over the fact that electric energy furnished and sold by Appalachian

Power Company to the City's Electric Utility System has only one point of

delivery and to avoid a recurrence of the recent accidental interruption of

electric service at this point an alternative or second point of delivery should

be provided.

.,..-,

Mayor Renick also informed Council of recent expressions from citizens regarding

the feasibility of providing a pedestrian crosswalk in the middle of the block

of Church Street between Broad Street and Ellsworth Street.

Mr. Oscar F. Cannaday, Jr., local building contractor, appeared before Council

and requested that the City's Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance be

revised to permit the construction and sale of multi-family units, by units,

such as condominiums, townhouses, rowhouses, garden-type apartments,

semi-detacJ~d houses, and high-rise apartment buildings. Mr. Cannaday stated

that such revisions would be in keeping with current trends in the building

industry.

Council wa~3 adjourned.

)d~~~' ~___.
W.
