<br />14 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 28, 1967 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appreciation--and authorized the acceptance of <br /> <br />the offer of Lanier Farm, Inc., by its letter dated February 10, 1967, <br /> <br />to donate right-of-way (from its property holdings) along Brookdale Road <br /> <br /> <br />and Spruce Street, indicative of its interest in the plan developed by <br /> <br /> <br />Public Works Director George W. Brown for improvements to these streets. <br /> <br /> <br />Meanwhile, Council authorized Mr. Brown to develop some basis for an <br /> <br />approach to the Henry County Board of Supervisors and the State Highway <br /> <br />Department, in the mutual interests of all parties concerned, by which <br /> <br />those sections of Spruce Street Extended (Old Danville Road) outside the <br /> <br />City's Corporate Limits might be included in the overall project. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Council ordered filed--for its future consideration--a petition from property <br /> <br />owners along Peters Street, requesting the construction of curb-and-gutter <br /> <br />(on a shared-cost basis) between Fayette Street and Church Street. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland presented a summary of the distribution of the State <br /> <br />sales tax and the receipt of the City's lllocal option" sales tax, for the <br /> <br /> <br />four months ended December 31, 1966. <br /> <br />,,"'...-... <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appreciation the 1966 Annual Report of the <br /> <br />Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department and, also, commended the group for <br /> <br />its excellent services and valuable contribution, in the form of fire <br /> <br />prevention and protection, to the citizens of Martinsville. <br /> <br />In connection with the petition filed January 10, 1967, by Sale Knitting <br /> <br /> <br />Company, Inc., requesting the vacating, closing, and abandoning of Rives <br /> <br />Street, and in acceptance of the report of a duly-constituted Board of <br /> <br />Viewers, Council adopted the following ordinance directing the vacating, <br /> <br />closing, and discontinuance of said Rives Street: <br />
