Henderson, Jr.) reported <br /> <br />in writing--under date of August 15, 1966--that said Viewers have viewed the <br /> <br />property and have found that, in their opinion, no inconvenience 1,.}Ould result <br /> <br />to any person by the closing and vacating of the portions of said streets <br /> <br />requested closed; furthermore, the Viewers recommended that Council enter an <br /> <br />order vacating, abandoning, and closing said street portions. Upon motion, <br /> <br />_. <br /> <br />duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council directed that the request of <br /> <br />petitioner be granted and that appropriate recordation of this directive be <br /> <br />made. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland reported that the City's application for Federal assistance <br /> <br />for local bus transportation equipment is still pending and that the City has <br /> <br />until September 16, 1966 to furnish additional information--in connection with <br /> <br />its application for Federal funds--recently requested by the Federal Housing & <br /> <br />Urban Development Authority. City Manager Noland further informed Council <br /> <br />that such funds may be denied by the Federal Government because of lack of <br /> <br />urban planning by the County of Henry although a resolution by Council asking <br /> <br />the Henry County Board of Supervisors to cooperate and participate in <br /> <br />comprehensive planning for Henry County might serve to permit Federal approval <br /> <br />of Mass Transportation funds requested. Whereupon motion, duly seconded, <br /> <br />Council adopted the following resolution to that effect: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in the past the City of Martinsville, Virginia, has effected <br />comprehensive planning, as exhibited in its recent application to the <br />Housing & Urban Development Authority for Federal funds for Mass <br />Transportation; and <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, studies made in the planning program embrace the urban area <br />surrounding Martinsville in sufficient detail to provide an adequate <br />base for further comprehensive planning in the urban area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such planning is sufficient to satisfy the requirements of <br />the Federal Government for grants-in-aid to the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia; now, therefore, <br />
