<br />HS <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 13. 1966 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., Mayor, presiding, was held Tuesday, <br /> <br />September 13, 1966, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />All members of Council were present, viz., Dr. F. T. Renick, Mayor; E. E. <br /> <br />Stone, Vice-Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held August 23, 1966, and of its special meeting held September 1, <br /> <br />1966. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on the rezoning petition submitted by Mr. Morton W. Lester (on July 26, 1966), <br /> <br />carrying the Planning Commission's recommendation that said petition be granted, <br /> <br />requesting the rezoning to "C-3 Commercial" of two lots identified as Lots Nos. <br /> <br />11 and 12 of the J. I. Petuske Subdivision and located at the intersection of <br /> <br />Liberty Street and Lester Lane. There being no objections registered by anyone <br /> <br />to this proposed rezoning, Council adopted the following ordinance effecting <br /> <br />said rezoning by amending the City1s Zonirg Code and Map accordingly: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this thirteenth d~ of September, 1966, <br />that the Zoning Code and Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be, <br />and are hereby, amended to reclassify--for zoning purposes--to "C-3 <br />Commercial" those two lots identified as Lots Nos. 11 and 12 of the <br />J. I. Petuske Subdivision, located in a triangle formed by the <br />intersection of Liberty Street and Lester Lane. <br /> <br />In connection with a petition filed July 26, 1966, by Bassett Industries, <br /> <br />Inc., (Mr. W. R. Broaddus, III, Attorney), requesting the closing and <br /> <br />vacating of portions of Bel~ont and Union Streets (off Forest Street) which <br /> <br />have never been opened, a duly-constituted Board of Viewers (composed of <br />
