II

TUESDAY

MARCH 22. 1966

office and dormitory soon to be vacated by transfer to the new Central

Fire Station at the corner of Church and Moss streets. Council indicated

that it would view the offices and quarters which would be affected by

the Manager's proposal and would provide the best arrangements possible

for the new Corporation Court as well as for other offices, pending

construction of the now-authorized City Hall.

Upon petition by Wells & Donavant Construction Company, Council granted

permission to petitioner to extend a City water main off Edwards Lane,

outside the corporate limits, to a point on Riverview Court to provide

water service for a five-unit apartment building petitioner proposes to

build, said permission being subject to compliance by petitioner with all
applicable City rules and regulations.

A petition, submitted by Mr. George W. Lester, II, of Lester Lumber Company,

for sewer service and for permission to extend a water main, outside the

City's corporate limits, from the intersection of Route 220 North and Armory

Road for a distance north along Armory Road of some three hundred feet, to

serve a proposed commercial development (i.e., shopping center), was referred

to the Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation. It was

noted that an extension of the City's water main along Route 220 North, from

the City's corporate limits to the intersection of Armory Road, for which

permissLon has been previously given, has not been constructed but would

have to be constructed by petitioner to provide service for the current proposal.

It was suggested, too, that contracts governing utility extensions outside

the corporate limits should include a Ilno-contestlt clause in the event

annexation proceedings develop.
