<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 22, 1966 <br /> <br /><- <br /> <br />Upon being informed that a Federal grant of $60,930.00 is available to the <br /> <br />City toward the cost of constructing the sewer project identified as <br /> <br />llWPC-Va-2281l, Council adopted the following resolution authorizing City <br /> <br />Manager Noland to execute--onbehalf of the City--the appropriate document <br /> <br />indicating acceptance of the grant offer: <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, has <br />been informed that a Federal grant of $60,930.00 is available <br />to the City of Martinsville toward the cost of constructing an <br />interceptor sewer, identified as Project No. WPC-Va-228, as a <br />phase of the City's overall intercepting sewer system; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of said City Council to accept said <br />Federal grant offered; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day <br />of March, 1966, that Thomas B. Noland, City Manager of the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia, be and is hereby authorized to <br />execute--on behalf of the City of Martinsville--the appropriate <br />document indicating acceptance by the City of Martinsville of <br />said Federal grant offer. <br /> <br />Council was reminded of its special meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 24, <br /> <br />1966, at 5:30 P.M., to consider for final adoption the School Bond Referendum <br /> <br />ordinance placed on first reading February 22, 1966. <br /> <br />-" <br /> <br />Representatives of the Martinsville-Henry County Bar Association appeared <br /> <br />before COlillcil with the recommendation that the City lease the Keesee Estate <br /> <br />building, located at the corner of Main and Walnut Streets and formerly <br /> <br />occupied by the Virginia National Bank (Southern Bank of Commerce), for <br /> <br />municipal office quarters, to provide facilities for municipal operations, <br /> <br />including the new Corporation Court (to which Attorney Frank I. Richardson, Jr., <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />has been appointed Judge) to become effective May 1, 1966. In connection <br /> <br />therewith, City Manager Noland presented a proposal for the use of the Keesee <br /> <br />Estate Building by the relocating of certain offices presently housed in City <br /> <br />Hall and for the use of vacated spaces in City Hall, including Fire Department <br />
