<br />10 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 25, 1966 <br /> <br />adjacent to Martinsville Convalescent Home, on which lot the petitioner proposes <br /> <br />to erect a five-unit apartment building. <br /> <br />A report of some of the activities of the Inspection Department, for the calendar <br /> <br />year 1965, revealed that--of the 1,087 various permits issued during the year-- <br /> <br />122 were for new residences and 30 for new commercial buildings, representing a <br /> <br />valuation of $6,262,532.00 within a total valuation of $9,533,025.00 for all <br /> <br />work covered by permits. <br /> <br />Council commended the Department of Public Works for the prompt and thorough <br /> <br />removal of snow from the City's streets during and following snowfalls which <br /> <br />occurred January 15th and January 22nd. <br /> <br />In accepting the resignation of Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick (M.D.) as interim <br /> <br />Director of Public Welfare, following the resignation of Mr. Julian F. Hirst <br /> <br />as City Manager and as Public Welfare Director, Council unanimously appointed <br /> <br />City Manager Noland to this post. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Attorney Irvin W. Cubine, Council unanimously adopted <br /> <br />the following ordinance amending Section 10-27 of Chapter 10 of the City Code, <br /> <br />as previously amended March 11, 1958: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-fifth day of January, 1966, that <br />Section 10-27 of the Code of the City of Martinsville, Virginia (1956, <br />and as amended) be and is hereby amended and re-enacted to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 10-27. Poolrooms It shall be unlawful to operate a poolroom <br />or billiard room in the City of Martinsville except in compliance with <br />the following provisions and regulations: <br /> <br />No person or corporation shall operate a public poolroom or billiard <br />room within the City of Martinsville unless the same shall be located <br />on the ground or street level floor of said building. Said building <br />shall have a street level entrance, the front of which shall contain <br />transparent glass windows or glass in the doors so that a view of the <br />entire poolroom area may be visible to a person five-feet-eight-inches <br />tall standing on the sidewalk immediately in front of said building, <br /> <br />and no curtain or partial partition shall be so arranged in the room <br />
