-q
I (j

TUESDAY

AUGUST 8, 1972

By notice dated August 3, 1972, Lee Telephone Company notified City Council

that it is in the process of filing an application for a rate increase with

the State Corporation Commission, date of hearing thereon yet to be scheduled

by said Commission.

At the request and upon recommendation of Mr. N. J. Paulsen, Administrator

of the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department, Council made available

from the 1972-73 City appropriation to the cost of said Health Department the

sum of $453.35--as the City's share--toward the cost of providing and

installing office dividers and/or partitions in the Health Department building.

Subject to requesting competitive bids therefor, Council authorized the razing

of the former Junior High School Building and the former City School Board

office on Cleveland Avenue, between Brown and Water Streets, at an estimated

cost of $10,000.00 to be appropriated from School Fund surplus.

Mr. D. B. Hanel, Commissioner of the Revenue, informed Council that the State

Compensation Board failed to match the City's appropriation for the 1972-73

fiscal year for the employment of a qualified full-time real estate assessor or

appraisor for the City and that the Board's allowance would provide funds only

for a trainee unless the City would appropriate sufficient additional funds;

whereupon, Council indicated that it favors the employing of a trainee, to be

trained by the State Department of Taxation, with expenses of such trainee--while

in training--to be borne by the City.

Council referred to the Planning Commission--for its consideration and

recommendation--a petition dated August 4, 1972 as filed by Mr. Ralph C. Lester,

~""""~--,---,,",,,,--"-"'--""- '...~ .. .,,,,,-._-------~~'~.---'"_., ".,. .
