Accordingly, Council authorized the purchase of additional <br /> <br />right-of-way pursuant to agreement and to the minutes of January 28, 1964, being <br /> <br />for the sum of $7,800.00 from Cornelia G. Brown's Devisee. Furthermore, Council <br /> <br />authorized the purchase of right-of-way from Lester Lumber Company, Inc., (in the <br /> <br />amount of $5,331.80), predicated on the value basis paid by the Commonwealth of <br /> <br />Virginia (47~~ per square foot) to Lester Lumber Company for right-of-way purchased <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />for the Route 57 (Northside Drive) project now under construction. Council was <br /> <br />informed that negotiations are progressing satisfactorily with Southwestern Virginia <br /> <br />Gas Company for right-of-way required from this firm, with Southwestern Virginia Gas <br /> <br />Company agreeing to give the City a right-of-entry for land clearing, etc., which <br /> <br />the City proposes to begin, prior to actual transfer of property to the City. As <br /> <br />to property required from Mr. G. N. DeShazo, Council was informed that negotiations <br /> <br />are still in process. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of, and filed for consideration for the City's 1972-73 <br /> <br />curb-and-gutter program, a request for curb-and-gutter (on a shared-cost basis) for <br /> <br />the section of Swanson Street between Lincoln and Bruce Streets; and, upon inquiry, <br /> <br />authorized the substituting of the Rivermont Heights project for that of scheduled <br /> <br />Barton Street (from West Church Street to Cemetery Street) inasmuch as the findings <br /> <br />of the current "downtown" development study might involve a portion of Barton Street <br /> <br />and, if so, the said Barton Street project should be deferred or delayed until the <br /> <br />study findings might be effected, contingent upon the Barton Street petitioners <br /> <br />being apprised of this eventuality and being agreeable to a postponement of their <br /> <br />project. <br /> <br />Commissioner of the Revenue D. B. Hanel presented for Council's consideration a <br /> <br />proposal whereby the City would establish a full-time or year-around property <br />
