<br />:30 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 25, 1972 <br /> <br />(1) Chatham Heights Baptist Church Trustees (references: Deed Book 44, <br />page 270, and Deed Book 46, page 26, Martinsville Corporation <br />Court Clerk's Office; Deed Book 79, page 558, and Deed Book 81, <br />page 274, Henry County Circuit Court Clerk's Office); and <br />(2) Dillard (reference: Deed Book 7, page 407, Martinsville Corporation <br />Court Clerk's Office); <br />which lands are to be held and used for permanent open-space lands for park <br />and recreational pruposes; and <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the regulations of the <br />Department of Housing & Urban Development (effectuating the Title) provide that <br />no person shall be discriminated against because of race, color, or national <br />origin in the use of the lands acquired and/or developed; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is estimated that the cost of acquiring and developing interests <br />in the Chatham Heights Area and the cost of developing interests in the West <br />Martinsville Area will be $69,428.00; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled this twenty-fifty day of January, 1972: <br /> <br />(1) That an application be made to the Department of Housing & Urban <br />Development for a grant in an amount authorized by Title VII of the <br />Housing Act of 1961, as amended, which amount presently is estimated <br />to be $34, 714.00, and that the Applicant will pay the balance of <br />the cost from other funds available to it; <br /> <br />(2) That the City Manager of the City of Martinsville is hereby <br />authorized and directed to execute and file such application with <br />the Department of Housing & Urban Development, to provide additional <br />information and to furnish such documents as may be required by said <br />Department, to execute such contracts as are required by said <br />Department, and to act as the authorized correspondent of the <br />Applicant; <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />(3) That the proposed acquisition and development in the Chatham <br />Heights Area and ,the proposed development in the West Martinsville <br />Area are in accordance with plans for the allocation of land for <br />open-space uses and, should said grant be made, that the Applicant <br />will acquire, develop and retain said lands for the use designated <br />in said application and approved by the Department of Housing & <br />Urban Development; and <br /> <br />(4) That the United States of America and the Secretary of Housing & <br />Urban Development be, and they are hereby, assured of full compliance <br />by the Applicant with regulations of the Department of Housing & <br />Urban Development effectuating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act <br />of 1964. <br />
