<br />I <br />_.'L <br />.. <br /> <br />TUES~AY <br /> <br />OCTOBER l2, 1971 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, after due consideration, the Council of the City of Martinsville <br />has accepted the recommendations of said Plumbing Code Revision <br />Committee; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARTINSVILLE, <br />VIRGINIA: <br /> <br />(l) That the 1971 edition of the Southern Standard Plumbing Code be, <br />and the same is hereby, adopted as the Plumbing Code of the City <br />of Martinsville, being identified as "Part II, Plumbing" of the <br />Building Code of the City of Martinsville (I1Building Code, <br />Martinsville, 196711); and <br /> <br />(2) That the Administration Chapter as now exists in the City's current <br />Plumbing Code is hereby retained and made a part of the City's <br />official Plumbing Code; and <br /> <br />(3) That the hereinabove-adopted 1971 edition of the Southern Standard <br />Plumbing Code shall become effective January 1, 1972. <br /> <br />Council unanimously ratified the recent written offers made by the City to The <br /> <br />First National Bank of Martinsville & Henry County and (to) Mr. G. N. DeShazo, <br /> <br />for the consideration of $500.00 each, whereby the City would hope to acquire <br /> <br />seven feet width frontage from each owner (each lot having fifty feet frontage) <br /> <br />along the west side of Ellsworth Street for eventual widening of this section <br /> <br />of said street. Council was informed that The First National Bank has accepted <br /> <br />said offer but (that) no response has been received from Mr. DeShazo. Council <br /> <br />also approved the widening project subject to acceptance of the City's offer <br /> <br />by Mr. DeShazo. <br /> <br />In acceptance of both the Planning Commission's report and recommendation <br /> <br />(see Minutes of August l7, 1971) and a duly-constituted Board of Viewers' <br /> <br />report dated October 12, 1971, Council adopted the following ordinance which <br /> <br />(l) vacated, closes and abandons a portion of Douglas Street and (2) amends <br /> <br />the City's Zoning Map by rezoning to I1C-3 Commerciall1 Lots Nos. 8, 9, lO and <br /> <br />II fronting said Douglas Street, pursuant to petition filed June 8, 1971 by <br /> <br />Mrs. Beulah W. Covington and Mrs. Nannie J. Draper: <br />
