B. Heldreth, Principal of Clearview Elementary School, and parents of

some of the children attending said school, appeared before Council and requested

the "stationing" of a Patrolmother or f1crossing guardfl at the intersection of

Barrows Mill Road and Burgess Court, stating that--inasmuch as Clearview School

no longer includes students beyong the fifth grade--it is too dangerous to assign

student patrols to this intersection. City Manager Noland informed Council that,

hopefully, upon the anticipated (within two months) installation of traffic signal

lights at the intersection of Church Street, Fairy Street and Booker Road, in

conjunction with the extending of Fairy Street to Northside Drive and Route 57

reconstruction, the present Patrolmother assignments might be rearranged so as

to be able to assign a Patrolmother or crossing guard at the Barrows Mill Road-

Burgess Court intersection. Meanwhile, Mr. C. L. Warner, of 327 Greyson Street,

offered his services--on a volunteer basis--as a crossing guard at said inter-

section for the intervening two months.

By memorandum dated September 7, 1971, Col. Walter E. Mather, Executive Director

of the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, informed the respective

governing bodies within said District of the possibility that the Department of

Housing and Urban Development (of the Federal Government) requirement for

f1certificationfl of all Planning Districts might preclude the actual distribution

------_.,,-, '---_._-_..._~-----_.._....,-,-----_.._.
