<br />~o <br />'1 C' <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST l7, 1971 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this seventeenth day of August, 1971, that <br />it does hereby endorse the general design for, and location of, said <br />highway construction project, as established by said Department of <br />Highways; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that the said Department of <br />Highways be and is hereby requested to continue the Primary Routes 220 <br />and 58 designations through the City of Martinsville as presently <br />located and that the new Martinsville By-Pass be designated as an <br />Alternate for both Routes; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that copies of this resolution <br />be filed with said Virginia Department of Highways. <br /> <br />Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the local Health Department, appeared before <br /> <br />Council and reported on the following matters: <br /> <br />(a) Dr. Ernest King will become associated with the local department <br />as dentist, on September l, 1971; <br /> <br />(b) preliminary findings resulting from the recent tuberculin test <br />program among twenty-three industries and involving 9,7l9 <br />individuals; and <br /> <br />(c) announcement of his resignation as Director of the local health <br />department, effective August 3l, 1971, and his disassociation <br />with the Virginia Department of Health as of that date; however, <br />Dr. Mathes informed Council that he and his family intend <br />residing in Martinsville and that he would be available, until <br />his plans change, to assist in community medical and health <br />services so long as such services are outside the jurisdiction, <br />and have no relationship, with the Virginia Department of Health. <br />Mayor Renick, on behalf of Council, expressed appreciation of <br />Dr. Mathes' services as Health Director as well as pleasure that <br />he intends to continue residing in Martinsvil1e. <br /> <br />School Superintendent John Richmond and Mr. John W. Holmes, of City Transit <br /> <br />Company, appeared before Council and outlined the 1971-72 school student <br /> <br />transportation problems and needs resulting from reassignment of students, <br /> <br />necessitating the addition of four school busses to the City Transit fleet. <br /> <br />Mr. Holmes informed Council that the City can purchase four used busses from <br /> <br />a source in Pennsylvania, for the sum of $2,250.00 each, which--subject to <br /> <br />mechanical inspection and approval--should meet the local need for the next <br /> <br />.,. ........"_~,.,_'w'""",.._""_~~,~,_~__.__,,_.~__...._._,"___'-,"._-,.~"----">~_."""""-"-"~ <br />
