Too, Council concurred in the opinions expressed by both

Councilman Hobson and Public Works Director George W. Brown, viz., that

prior to considering any future petitions requesting closing of streets in

the general area, such as "E" Street, etc., the Planning Commission and the

City's administrative personnel should study the entire area toward overall

planning and determine which streets or sections, if any, should be closed

and initiate proceedings toward that end.

Pursuant to Order entered by the Honorable Frank I. Richardson, Jr., Judge

of Martinsville Corporation Court, Messrs. J. E. (Dick) Jones, William B.

Muse, and Thomas J. Burch have been appointed members of the Board of

Equalization for the City of Martinsville (i.e., for 1971) and said members

shall have all authority conferred upon them by Sections 58-895 through

58-915 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (l950, and as amended), and shall hold office
in accordance with the above-cited Code Sections.

Upon being informed that Mrs. Lucille Andes Weaver, owner of the property

on East Main Street which the City has under lease for use as a metered

parking lot, is agreeable to entering into a new lease agreement with the

City for a three-year term beginning January 1, 1971, which will incorporate

the same terms and conditions as are in the current lease expiring December

31, 1970, plus the added feature whereby the City may terminate said new

agreement at any time during the life of same, following ninety days written

notice of intent so to do, Council unanimously authorized the preparation

of said new lease agreement and the execution thereof (for the City) by

City Manager Noland.

-- -'. ~----_._-'----~--_._-----~--_.__..._-_._-_.._-
