I, I...... <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 8, 1970 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, <br /> <br />December 8, 1970, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City <br /> <br />Hall, with all members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Francis T. West; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William <br /> <br />D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held November 24, 1970. <br /> <br />In connection with Mrs. James M. Stone's October 13th petition requesting <br /> <br />the closing and vacating of that portion of "c" Street which lies between <br /> <br />411 Fifth Street and 524 Fourth Street, the Planning Commission (by report <br /> <br />dated December 4, 1970) informed Council that it has conducted a duly- <br /> <br />advertised public hearing on said petition and now recommends that the <br /> <br />request be granted, Le., that "c" Street (between Fourth and Fifth Streets) <br /> <br />be closed and abandoned subject to the following conditions: <br /> <br />(l) That the City retain the usual utility easements through its <br /> <br />right-of-way; and <br /> <br />(2) That an appropriate map (in recordable form) be prepared, <br /> <br />indicating the effect of the closing upon adjacent properties. <br /> <br />Council was also informed that a favorable report from the duly-constituted <br /> <br />Board of Viewers in this matter is in transit and will soon be forthcoming; <br /> <br />whereupon, Council scheduled a duly-advertised public hearing for its <br /> <br />regular meeting to be held January l2, 1971, for further consideration of <br /> <br />this petition. Meanwhile, it was pointed out that the street section <br /> <br />requested closed involves property owners other than the petitioner and, <br />
