'(1 tJ TUESDAY JULY 28, 1970 Council concurred with Councilman Hartford in his suggestion that this matter be continued for study, to ascertain whether the need can be met with less outlay of funds. Council then carried this matter forward to an adjourned session of this meeting, expected to be reconvened within the next few days, to receive additional information from the several officials involved. Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County-Patrick County Health Department, appeared before Council and commented upon the following matters of mutual interest: (1) The Health Department1s grave concern and its responsibility in connection with the proposed mobile home court (re: the G. C. Salmons petition hereinbefore covered in these minutes); (2) The vacancy in the position of dentist within the departmental staff, expected to be filled August 1st; (3) Efforts, in cooperation with the City's Public Works Department, in more successful rodent control, particularly at the recently-closed "City Dumpll and in the sewerage system, meanwhile complimenting the the City in its new land-fill operation at a new site off Jones Creek; (4) Reference to the State statutes governing "open burning", with the possibility that the City might be required to obtain a IIvariancell permit from the State for some of its operations; (5) Air pollution _ Martinsville's condition being not too much of a problem, on basis of data collection findings over past two years; and (6) Continuing unsightly and unsanitary conditions in walkway between East Main and East Church Street, with Council assuring Health Department of full support and departmental assistance to abate these conditions.
