~

TUESDAY

JANUARY 13, 1970

Council recognized Fire Platoon Captain Peter Franklin Hairfield upon the

occasion of his retirement (as of December 31, 1969), having completed slightly

over twenty-five years of meritorious service to the City as an member of the

Fire Department.

After receiving certain cost proposals from the local firm of Logan Gray, Inc.,

for the microfilming and processing of the City's building permits and maps,

as well as from the 3-M Corporation for the purchase of its equipment for this

purpose, Council continued this matter to its next regular meeting.

At the request of City Sergeant James L. Carter, and with the prior approval

of the State Compensation Board, Council appropriated the sum of $66.67--being

the City's one-third share of total of $200.00--for the employing of extra

help or substitute help at the City Jail for the year ending June 30, 1970.

Council referred to the Planning Commigion, for its consideration and

recommendation, a request filed by the Druid Hills Baptist Church, at 1425

Spruce Street, for City water and sewer service at that location for a new

church building now under construction.

Council acknowledged and accepted Mr. James I. Barnes' withdrawal of his

recent request for permission to connect his premises--on duPont Road--to

the City's water and sewer lines.

Council concurred in the Virginia Municipal League's recommendation that

Section 58-664 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) be amended to

delete the word "electric" where it now appears in this section, pertaining

to railways.

".-------- - ---.----....----.-----.-. -..----'---..-.--,----
