<br />~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 13, 1970 <br /> <br />Council recognized Fire Platoon Captain Peter Franklin Hairfield upon the <br /> <br />occasion of his retirement (as of December 31, 1969), having completed slightly <br /> <br />over twenty-five years of meritorious service to the City as an member of the <br /> <br />Fire Department. <br /> <br />After receiving certain cost proposals from the local firm of Logan Gray, Inc., <br /> <br />for the microfilming and processing of the City's building permits and maps, <br /> <br />as well as from the 3-M Corporation for the purchase of its equipment for this <br /> <br />purpose, Council continued this matter to its next regular meeting. <br /> <br />At the request of City Sergeant James L. Carter, and with the prior approval <br /> <br />of the State Compensation Board, Council appropriated the sum of $66.67--being <br /> <br /> <br />the City's one-third share of total of $200.00--for the employing of extra <br /> <br /> <br />help or substitute help at the City Jail for the year ending June 30, 1970. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commigion, for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation, a request filed by the Druid Hills Baptist Church, at 1425 <br /> <br />Spruce Street, for City water and sewer service at that location for a new <br /> <br />church building now under construction. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged and accepted Mr. James I. Barnes' withdrawal of his <br /> <br />recent request for permission to connect his premises--on duPont Road--to <br /> <br />the City's water and sewer lines. <br /> <br />Council concurred in the Virginia Municipal League's recommendation that <br /> <br />Section 58-664 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) be amended to <br /> <br />delete the word "electric" where it now appears in this section, pertaining <br /> <br />to railways. <br /> <br />".-------- - ---.----....----.-----.-. -..----'---..-.--,---- <br />
