<br />1- <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 18, 1969 <br /> <br />December 18, 1969, at which meeting no one <br />to the proposed closing of said portion of <br />therefore, <br /> <br />registered an objections <br />said unopened street; now, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this eighteenth day of December, 1969, that-- <br />in acceptance of the reports and findings of both the Martinsville <br />Planning Commission and said Board of Viewers--it doth hereby order the <br />vacating and abandoning of that portion of an unopened street, off Boden <br />Street, which lies between Lots Nos. 27, 28, 30, and 31 owned by <br />petitioner; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that a copy of this ordinance be forthwith filed <br />with the Clerk of the Corporation Court of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, as authorization for said Clerk to mark his records according <br />hereto. <br /> <br />After considering further the rate application petition recently filed by <br /> <br />Southwestern Virginia Gas Company with the State Corporation Commission, <br /> <br />Council discussed--"off the record"--certain privileged information obtained <br /> <br />by City Manager Noland and City Attorney Cubine, at the conclusion of which <br /> <br />discussion Council expressed the conviction that the amount or high percentage <br /> <br />of rate increases sought by petitioner are not justified and that, in the <br /> <br />interest of local citizens, the petition should be opposed with expert testimony <br /> <br />before the Corporation Commission at its scheduled hearing on this matter on <br /> <br />January 5, 1970; whereupon, Council authorized the retaining of the legal <br /> <br />firm of Christian, Barton, Parker, Epps & Brent, of Richmond, Virginia, <br /> <br />pursuant to recommendation of City Attorney Cubine, to represent the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville and its citizens before the Corporation Commission. <br /> <br />In accordance with the request of the Piedmont Consumer Corporation, a <br /> <br />subsidiary of and holding company for the Piedmont Trust Bank, Council <br /> <br />authorized the construction by the City of curb-and-gutter (on a shared-cost <br />
