,.

,
....

WEDNESDAY

NOVEMBER 12, 1969

(2) Adkins Construction Corporation be required to comply with all
other applicable ordinances of the City in the development of
said property.

In connection with current discussions and procedures in process, regarding

the suggested merger and/or consolidation of Henry County and the City of

Martinsville into a single city, Council appointed the following as the City's

representatives on an Advisory Commission to conduct an in-depth feasibility

study of this matter:

Mr. J. Frank Wilson, Vice President, The First National Bank of
Martinsville & Henry County;

Mr. L. Dudley Walker, President, Bassett-Walker Knitting Co., Inc.;
and

Mr. William F. Franck, President, Sale Knitting Company, Inc.

Subsequent to the foregoing action, i.e., after the Council had completed its

consideration of the prepared agenda for this meeting, Mr. Joseph W. Pritchett,

of 1203 Maxine Road, registered his objection to the fact that the City's

Advisory Commission does not include a member from the City's black population,

stating that without such representation the local black citizenry will not

support the merger question when and if put to referendum.

Council "tabled" for such consideration as it might wish to give at some

future date a proposal by City Manager Noland that an annual charge be assessed

against and collected from non-City residents who borrow or "check-out" books

and library material from the City's Public Library.

Council unanimously authorized the purchase of a tract of land northeast of

the City, off Clearview Drive, for the sum of $25,000.00, for future municipal

use.
