<br />(I <br />. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 28, 1969 <br /> <br />Through Mr. M. Harrison Joyce, Attorney at Law and Counsel for petitioner, <br /> <br />Sale Knitting Company (by letter dated October 23, 1969) requested the <br /> <br />rezoning of its property on Dillard Street--being property recently <br /> <br />purchased from Martinsville City School Board and one adjoining lot--from <br /> <br />"R-9" to IIM-2". Council referred this petition to the Planning Commission <br /> <br />for its consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of--and ordered filed for next year's <br /> <br />scheduled review--a petition from the residents of Rivermont Heights <br /> <br />requesting the construction of curb-and-gutter (on the usual shared-cost <br /> <br />basis) on both sides of said street from Memorial Boulevard South to <br /> <br />the City's corporate limits on said street. <br /> <br />By the following resolution, Council authorized the borrowing from local <br /> <br />banks the total sum of $250,000.00 to meet current operating expenses: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, income of the City of Martinsville has not been realized <br />as anticipated and, therefore, momentarily is insufficient to meet <br />the City's operating expenses; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-eighth day of October, 1969, <br />that the Honorable F. T. Renick, M.D., Mayor, and W. H. Yeaman, <br />Clerk of Council & Director of Finance, be--and are hereby--authorized <br />and directed to execute notes, on behalf of the City of Martinsville, <br />for the borrowing from local banks the total sum of $250,000.00 for <br />the period October 29, 1969 to December 1, 1969, with right of <br />anticipation reserved for any portion or all of said amount. <br /> <br />Council called for a special meeting of the Council to be conducted <br /> <br />Monday, November 3, 1069, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning <br /> <br />at 12 o'clock noon, for the purpose of adopting a resolution introduced <br /> <br />October 2, 1969, providing for the issuance of $2,100,000 City of <br /> <br />Martinsville School Bonds, which are to be delivered to Anderson & <br /> <br />Strudwick, purchaser, in Richmond, Virginia, Wednesday, November 5, 1969. <br />
