<br />J5 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 28, 1973 <br /> <br />setting forth the result of each of the aforementioned tests and studies, <br />and his findings, based upon the aforesaid results, as to whether such <br />fireman is free from respiratory diseases, hypertension, and heart <br />disease. Said reports shall be forwarded by the City Manager to the <br />Director of the City Department of Public Health for his review and <br />shall thereafter remain in the custody of the Director of the City <br />Department of Public Health as a permanent record. <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that, an emergency existing, this ordinance <br />shall be in full force and effect on August 28, 1973, at 10:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> <br />Further, Council unanimously adopted the following resolution memorializing the public <br /> <br />service of the late Senator William F. Stone, who died August 19, 1973, and requesting <br /> <br />the Virginia Highway Commission to name officially the proposed Martinsvi11e By-Pass <br /> <br />as the "William F. Stone Highway": <br /> <br />WHEREAS, with the death on August 19, 1973 of The Honorable William F. Stone <br />came the end of a most distinguished career not only in the legal profession <br />but also in the public service of the people of this community as well as <br />of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and <br />WHEREAS, in addition to his eminent service as a member of the Virginia <br />General Assembly, beginning in 1954 as a member of its House of Delegates <br />and subsequently as a member of its Senate until his death, William F. Stone <br />served the City of Martinsville as its very able City Attorney from <br />February 1, 1947 to May 31, 1958, for which service in this capacity <br />Martinsville City Council appropriately expressed recognition and <br />appreciation by resolution duly adopted and recorded June 10, 1958; and <br />WHEREAS, in further recognition and appreciation of his outstanding <br />contributions--which were neither limited to his successful efforts in <br />the field of higher education in Virginia nor to the planning and <br />providing for a modern highway system in Virginia--which will continually <br />accrue to the benefit of the people of Virginia, Martinsville City Council <br />desires to memorialize this great public servant and his extraordinary <br />record of public service; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-eighth day of August, 1973, that it <br />does hereby petition and request the Virginia Highway Commission to name <br />the proposed highway construction project, initially designated as Route <br />212 (and generally known as the Martinsvil1e By-Pass), as the <br />"William F. Stone Highway" in honor of and in memory of William F. Stone; <br />and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by this Council that a copy of this resolution be <br />forwarded to the family of William F. Stone. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, and there being no other business <br /> <br />to come before Council, Council went into an Executive Session to receive (1) a briefing <br /> <br />from City staff members on legal matters arising from the hereinbefore-referred_to <br /> <br />request of the Henry County Public Service Authority and to discuss correspondence <br /> <br />f <br />
