<br />.1 1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 22, 1973 <br /> <br />/~..-.. <br /> <br />conduct the first and separate public hearing, followed by a public hearing <br /> <br />conducted by Council and by such succeeding public hearings as necessary to inform <br /> <br />the public completely, stressing the imperative need of having all citizens under- <br /> <br />stand the importance to the entire community of the proposed revitalization and-- <br /> <br />to that end--providing and assigning of such personnel as becomes necessary and <br /> <br />exerting and directing every effort in this direction. Meanwhile, Mayor West urged <br /> <br />that every owner of property and every business firm within.the Central Business <br /> <br />District be contacted by letter and personally conferred with on the importance of <br /> <br />and need for revitalization. Mayor West also informed Council that the local <br /> <br />Jaycee organization has expressed interest in assisting in this project. Assistant <br /> <br />City Manager-Public Works Director George W. Brown, Chairman of the special CBD <br /> <br />Committee, pointed out the need for developing a l'time tablell for the benefit of <br /> <br />business interests in their planning, the need for adoption of the CBD redevelopment <br /> <br />plan, and the implementation thereof. City Manager Noland reported that the matter <br /> <br />of providing and assigning necessary personnel, hereinbefore mentioned, already is <br /> <br />under study and, further, he has included in his proposed 1973-74 City Budget--soon <br /> <br />to be presented--some $479,000 from revenue-sharing funds as a revolving fund <br /> <br />allocated to this project. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation <br /> <br /> <br />(for approval) pertaining to the rezoning petition filed March 13, 1973 by the <br /> <br /> <br />A, E & A Corporation (Mr. Benjamin R. Gardner, Attorney at Law, counsel for <br /> <br /> <br />petitioner), requesting the rezoning to "P-2" of petitioner's property at 409 East <br /> <br />Church Street, Council directed that a duly-advertised public hearing on this <br /> <br />petition be conducted at Council's forthcoming June 12th meeting. <br />
