.) ,
~ .
'.'..i "-.,'

TUESDAY

MAY 22, 1973

Mr. Dallas Blevins, residing at 15 Booker Road, appeared before Council and,

speaking for the majority of those residents on the east side of Booker Road,

protested the proposed construction of sidewalk along the east side of this

sidewalk, citing these residents' opinion that the safety of school children

along this street would be better served if the sidewalk be constructed along

the west side. Council concurred in Mayor West's suggestion that these residents

confer with City Manager Noland and Assistant City Manager-Public Works Director

BroWl on this matter.

City Manager Noland and Recreation Director Herbert O. Hughes informed Council

that problems have developed in the usage of tennis courts at the Martinsvi1le

High School site, noting that prolonged usage at times by some players prevented

usage by other players. Pursuant to recommendations from Mr. Noland and Mr.

Hughes, Council authorized policy changes whereby players will be limited to l~

hours usage at anyone time, a fee of fifty cents (per usage) will be charged

each non-resident user, and personnel shall be provided to enforce these regulations.

Mr. Joseph Pritchett bought to Council's attention the need for providing an

off-street play area for children in the Roundabout Road area to eliminate the

present hazard to motor vehicle traffic along this street and the risk of injury

to children now playing in the street, with Mr. Pritchett u~ng that even a

temporary area be provided until proposed permanent facilities are made available,

as contemplated in current park development plans which call for development thereof

to be underway within the next two months.

Council was adjourned.

~tl~~t~ -~~.-
W. H. Yea ~, Clerk of Council
