10 TUESDAY APRIL 24, 1973 .- Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council directed thet an appropriation of $14,350.04 be included in the City's forthcoming 1973-1974 City Budget toward the support of the Patrick Henry Mental Hygiene Clinic, this sum being approximately 40% of the Clinic's proposed 1973-1974 budget and for which the support heretofore rendered by the United Fund and by the State of Virginia is being reduced, according to Dr. John D. French, who presented this request and to whom--as well as to other citizens voluntarily devoting their time and efforts to such worthy causes--the Council expressed appreciation and gratitude. Similarly, Council directed that an appropriation of $700.00 be included in the City's forthcoming 1973-1974 budget for support, as requested by Mr. Donald L. Richardson, of the Piedmont Regional Mental Retardation Services Board during 1973-1974. Upon recommendation of Assistant City Manager George W. Brown, now a member of the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, Council appointed Mr. James M. Wilson to membership on the Public Services Committee of the WPPDC, from the City of Martinsvil1e, to fill the vacancy on that committee formerly filled by Mr. Brown, who--as a WPPDC member--is no longer eligible to fill the committee post. Prior to the naming of Mr. Wilson, Councilman Hobson expressed the preference that such a post be filled from the ranks of women, or from the teaching profession or from persons active or interested in social services work. Council unanimously approved the construction of curb-and-gutter (on a shared-cost basis) in front 'of property on Commonwealth Boulevard to be developed by Mitchell-Howell Ford, Inc., and also the construction of curb-and-gutter (on a shared-cost basis)
