t""1 I)
$ !~

TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 13, 1973

Council conducted a duly-advertised public hearing on a petition submitted

by Lester Lumber Company (11-14-72) requesting the rezoning from R-9 Residential

to R-6 Residential a tract of land situated between Northside Drive and the

Carolina & Northwestern Railroad, beginning at Jones Creek and running south

approximately 800 feet. No citizen spoke in favor of or in opposition to the

proposal. After reviewing the Planning Commission's recommendation that the

rezoning petition be granted, and after studying a map submitted by Lester

Lumber Company, motion was made by Mr. Hartford, seconded by Mr. Hobson,

and carried unanimously, that the petition for rezoning be granted, as

recommended by the Planning Commission, by ordinance, as follows:

BE IT ORDAINED by Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in
regular meeting assembled this 13th day of February, 1973, that the
Zoning Code and the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be and are
hereby amended so as to effect a "R-6 Residential" zoning of the
following property:

That tract of land lying between Northside Drive and the
right-of-way of Carolina & Northwestern Railway, with the
easternmost corner, on the boundary line of Northside Drive
being opposite the intersection of Dudley Street with
Northside Drive, the tract fronting 275 feet on the western
boundary of Northside Drive and running back 187.34 feet to
the boundary of the C~ & N.W. Railway; thence along the
right-of-way of said railway a distance of 155.97 feet to
a point; thence eastward a distance of 233.83 feet to the
western right-of-way line of Northside Drive.

After consideration of a Planning Commission report, under date of February 9,

1973, in which report the Commission recommended approval of a petition (filed

12-12-72) by Dr. John D. French, requesting an amendment to the City's Zoning

Ordinance to allow interior decoration and design shops in P-2 Professional

Districts, motion was made, seconded, and carried unanimously, that this

proposed amendment be advertised for a public hearing to be conducted at the

upcoming March 13th meeting of Council.
