<br />') <br />t"" <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 10, 1972 <br /> <br />In acknowledging City Manager Noland's October 6th announcement that he has assigned <br /> <br />additional responsibilities to Public Works Director George W. Brown as Assistant <br /> <br />City Manager for Special Projects, Council commended City Manager Noland for making <br /> <br />this appointment and congratulated Mr. Brown upon his promotion. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council convened into Executive <br /> <br />Session to consider a real estate matter and to consider a report from City Attorney <br /> <br />"- <br /> <br />Worthy concerning the City's Electric Utility System, following which session Council <br /> <br />reconvened into regular session and took the following actions on these matters: <br /> <br />(1) authorized the purchase of a tract of land (identified as Tract "A"), <br /> <br />consisting of 36.82 acres, from the Pettie Estate for the sum of <br /> <br />$20,600.00, situated off Route 622 (Clearview Drive) and adjacent to <br /> <br />the City's Sanitary Land-fill site, further authorizing the sale of <br /> <br />246.13 front footage along this route from said total tract, being <br /> <br />approximately 1.5 acres of land, to Leonard & Naomi Pettie Bowles for <br /> <br />the sum of $6,153.25, making the net cost to the City of $14,446.75 to <br /> <br />be financed by an appropriation transfer of like amount from the <br /> <br />General Fund's Emergency Account; and <br /> <br />(2) upon recommendation of City Attorney Worthy, adopted the two following <br /> <br />~.,...-.. <br /> <br />resolutions officially recording the Council's opposition to proposed <br /> <br />changes in rates and charges (to the City for electric energy supplied <br /> <br />by Appalachian Power Company) which the Appalachian Power Company has <br /> <br />tendered for filing with the Federal Power Commission, and authorizing <br /> <br />the employment of special counsel therein named for the protection of <br /> <br />~ the City's interests: <br />
