t,
, '

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 10, 1972

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation

dated October 10, 1972, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to

be conducted by Council at its forthcoming November 14th meeting on Mr. Ralph

C. Lester's petition--filed with Council on August 8, 1972--requesting the

closing and vacating of the portion of Hickory Street situated between Middle

Street and Route 57 in the western section of the City. Included in the

Commission's report was the recommendation that petitioner be required, in

advance of Council's final action on this petition, to file with the City a map

showing all property abutting the portion of the street requested to be closed,

ownership of such properties, and the effect such closing would have on such

properties.

Also in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommend-

ation dated October 10, 1972, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing

to be conducted by Council at its forthcoming November 14th meeting on Lester

Lumber Company's petition (filed with Council on August 22, 1972) requesting the

rezoning to "M-2" of petitioner's following properties:

(1) the block between Franklin Street, Liberty Street and Liberty
Street Extended; and

(2) that tract of land lying west of petitioner's Jones Creek plant,
bounded by a line 800 feet north of the north line of Commonwealth
Boulevard to the west corporate limits of the City, the C&NW
Railroad, and the west line of the "M-2" zone to the west of
petitioner's present plant on Liberty Street.

Upon recommendation of Colonel Walter E. Mather, Executive Director of the West

Piedmont Planning District Commission, and noting that five of the seven govern-

mental jurisdictions within the Planning District--as well as many allied

agencies--have so endorsed, Council went on record as endorsing the formation

of a Comprehensive Health Planning Council for the Planning District.
