<br />4,8 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 15, 1977 <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />aforesaid parcels of land being a portion of the same land acquired <br />by Wray Park Corporation from W. B. Muse, Jr., and Evelyn Muse by <br />deed dated April 28, 1956, and duly of record in the Clerk's <br />Office of the Circuit Court of the City of Martinsville, Virginia <br />in Deed Book 44, at page 70; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to authority previously granted by a resolution of this <br />Council, agents of the City of Martinsville have previously made a bona <br />fide but ineffectual effort to purchase said land and easements from the <br />said Wray Park Corporation and were unable to do so because of inability <br />to agree upon the purchase price; now, therefore, <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session held on November 15, 1977, that David B. Worthy be, and <br />he hereby is, appointed Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in this matter; and, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that said David B. Worthy be, and <br />he hereby is, authorized to bring and conduct condemnation proceedings to <br />acquire said land and easements in the name of and on behalf of the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia, and as its Attorney to make oath to the <br />condemnation petition, all in accord with the statutes in this Commonwealth <br />and such cases made and provided. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council appointed Mrs. Lowell <br /> <br />(Mary) Thomas, Mr. Ronald A. Brugge, Mr. J. Burness Frith, Mr. E. M. Linker, and <br /> <br />Mr. Robert A. Williams as the City's representative-members on the Martinsville- <br /> <br />Henry County OEDP (Overall Economic Development Plan) Committee, now in the process <br /> <br />of being organized. <br /> <br /><,-, <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of two bids received from contractors for the construction <br /> <br />of a proposed Social Services Building on the east side of Moss Street, to the rear of the <br /> <br />City's Main Fire Station, viz., $439,000.00 submitted by Bennett-Nichols Construction <br /> <br />Company, and $388,000.00 submitted by Stanley Bowles Construction Company, noting that <br /> <br />total funds allocated to the project are but $275,000.00 ($125,000.00 of local money made <br /> <br />available by Council and $150,000.00 from an Economic Development Administration grant). <br />
