<br />~28 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 25, 1977 <br /> <br />23, 1976) of Mr. Earle W. Greene's request that a street identified as <br /> <br />Azalia (or Azalea) Street, which connects the north side of Mulberry <br /> <br />Road with the south boundary of City Park, be closed and abandoned, <br /> <br />to permit petitioner to have additional and sufficient land available <br /> <br />to build <br /> <br />an addition to his apartment complex situated at 613 <br /> <br />Mulberry Road, the Planning Commission recommended that, in lieu of <br /> <br />closing said street, the Council close and abandon a ten-foot alley <br /> <br />adjacent to the rear of Mr. Greene's apartment complex and to the <br /> <br />City Park, subject to the filing with the Clerk of Martinsville City <br /> <br />Circuit Court (of) a proper map for recordation in the office of <br /> <br />said Clerk. The Commission further reported that, in its opinion, <br /> <br />said Azalia (Azalea) Street should be retained as a walk-in access <br /> <br />from Mulberry Road to the City Park and, too, that the closing of <br /> <br />the aforementioned alley would accommodate Mr. Greene's intent and <br />need. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council <br />accepted the Commission's recommendation and so ordered said alley <br />closed and abandoned. <br /> <br />Council was presented with a tabulation of sealed bids received by the <br /> <br />City for the remodeling and renovating of the City's property at 19 <br /> <br />South Moss Street (said property formerly being the Ohev Zion <br /> <br />Synagogue and, subsequently the headquarters of the Americal Legion's <br /> <br />Pannill Post No. 42) for use as a Senior Citizens Center. These <br /> <br />bids, submitted by five area contractors, covered the renovating of <br /> <br />the basement, or first floor, of the building, plus seven alternates <br /> <br />for various additional sub-projects, with the lowest bid being that <br /> <br />of Clyde Cahill, Contractor, for $30,000.00 "base" bid and for <br /> <br />$50,550.00 for the total project, against which the City has been <br />
