~16 THURSDAY DECEMBER 30, 1976 State officials of Council's position in this matter. Upon motion, duly seconded and carried on the affirmative vote of all members of Council, with the exception of Vice-Mayor Cole, who abstained, Council adopted the following ordinance amending Section 8-3.3 of the City's Employee Manual, pursuant to Council's action taken thereon at its recent December 14th meeting: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session held on December 30, 1976, that Section 8-3.3 of the Manual for the Employees of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be amended to read as follows: 8-3.3 Relatives - An applicant for a full-time permanent position in the City's Finance Department may not be considered for employment in or transfer into said Department if the applicant is related to any full-time permanent employee then on the payroll and under the jurisdiction of the City Manager. In this context, related shall mean or include: parent, step-parent, child, step-child, husband, wife, brother, half-brother, sister, half-sister. In Departments other than Finance, under the jurisdiction of the City Manager, such restrictions, except for parent, step-parent, child, step-child, shall not apply to applicants for or work assignments to Departments other than those wherein a relative as defined herein is already employed or assigned. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that an emergency exists and that the foregoing amendment shall become effective on and after January l, 1977.
