<br />100 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 14, 1976 <br /> <br />Also, pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted <br /> <br />a public hearing on a petition filed under date of August 24, 1976 <br /> <br />by DeShazo Oil Company, Inc., (Mr. Thomas D. DeShazo, Jr., <br /> <br />President), requesting the rezoning of petitioner's property <br /> <br />located at the intersection of Railroad and Bridge Streets (being <br /> <br />Lot No. 50 of Section 32 of the City's Tax Map) from "C-2 <br /> <br />Commercial" to "M-2 Industrial". The record notes that <br /> <br />Mr. DeShazo was present at this hearing in behalf of said petition <br /> <br />and, also, that Mr. John L. Gregory, III, Attorney at Law and <br /> <br />counsel for area property owners, was present and reported the <br /> <br />objections to said requested rezoning by his clients. Upon <br /> <br />motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted <br /> <br />the Planning Commission's report dated November 5, 1976, which <br /> <br />recommended--for reasons cited in said report--the denial of <br /> <br />petitioner's request. Accordingly, said request was denied. <br /> <br />Upon receipt of City Attorney Worthy's opinion that there would <br /> <br />be no conflict of interest if Mr. James W. Severt (President of <br /> <br />Nationwide Homes, Inc.) were or is appointed to membership on the <br /> <br />City's Highway Safety Commission, as recommended for appointment <br /> <br />by Councilman West at Council's meeting of November 23, 1976, <br /> <br />Council unanimously appointed Mr. Severt to membership on said <br /> <br />Commission, along with Mr. J. Ronald Ferrell (of 917 Hunting <br /> <br />Ridge Road), who was nominated by Vice-Mayor Cole. Meanwhile, at <br /> <br />the request of Vice-Mayor Cole, who is Chairman of the City's <br /> <br />Highway Safety Commission, in noting that members of this commission <br />
