~~

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 26, 1976

.--

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that

property located at 16 Starling Avenue be rezoned to "P-2 Professional" as

requested by Martinsville Travel, Inc., Mr. Luther W. Patterson, Secretary, in

its petition presented to Council on August 24, 1976, Council called for a

duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on this petition at Council's

forthcoming November 23rd meeting.

-

Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and

recommendation, an Application for a Special-Use Permit, as filed by

Mr. Victor A. Lester, seeking Council's permission to allow applicant to

construct a forty-unit apartment complex on Smith Lake Road, near Forest

Street.

In acknowledging a status report pertaining to curb-and-gutter and/or

sidewalk projects authorized for 1976-77 as well as the report that funds

appropriated for these projects will not be completely expended, Council

authorized the applying of such unexpended funds toward the widening and

improving of Liberty Street ("Figsboro Road" and Route 108) from York Street

to Inman Street, with the scheduling of same for the latter part of the

current fiscal year in the expectation of appropriating funds in 1977-78 for

the continuation of this project, without interruption, to include that

section of Liberty Street from Inman Street to Big Jane Street.

Council also acknowledged a status report from the CBD Commission, presented

by Assistant City Manager-Public Works Director George W. Brown, Chairman, on

the current implementation of the Parking Study Report recommendations, with

..>'--------------.---.-.._.__.'___'.m___
