<br />WHEREAS, D. B. Hanel, Commissioner of Revenue
<br />for the City of Martinsville, Virginia, has consented
<br />to make such annual assessment and equalization, and
<br />has in fact requested same; now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
<br />Martinsville, Virginia in regular session held on
<br />October 26, 1976, that, beginning with the year 1977,
<br />and for each year thereafter as long as this resolution
<br />remains in effect, all real estate in the City of
<br />Martinsville shall be assessed as of January 1 of each
<br />year and taxes for each year on such real estate shall
<br />be extended by the Commissioner of Revenue on the basis
<br />of the last assessment made prior to such year.
<br />
<br />Continuing its consideration of the proposal presented to Council at its
<br />
<br />regular meeting held October 12, 1976, pertaining to the recommended
<br />
<br />changing of the departmental title of the City's Welfare Department, and
<br />
<br />in acceptance of the report and recommendation of Mrs. Mabelle S. King,
<br />
<br />Superintendent of said department, Council unanimously authorized and
<br />
<br />directed that the name of this department shall be (the) "Department of
<br />
<br />Social Services" and that the officer in charge thereof shall be known as
<br />
<br />(the) "Director".

<br />In response to Council's referral (from its October 12th meeting) of the
<br />
<br />petition submitted by Bennett & Wilson, Realtors, requesting the rezoning
<br />
<br />to "P-2" of property along the east side of Fairy Street, situated north of
<br />
<br />the BPOE (Elks) Lodge property, the Planning Commission reported that it
<br />
<br />has scheduled a public hearing on this petition, including an enlargement
<br />
<br />thereof by the Commission, for November 18, 1976. Accordingly, and
<br />
<br />acceding to the petitioner's request for expeditious processing thereof,
<br />
<br />Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted thereon
<br />
<br />at Council's regular meeting scheduled for November 23, 1976.
