It was indicated that such renovation would include

the installation of an air-conditioning system, the replacement of the building's

heating plant, the providing of restrooms, the providing of access facilities

for the handicapped, and the improving of parking lot facilities, the total cost

of which renovation was estimated at $95,000.00, with $45,000.00 to be allocated

to the City as its share of the cost, which cost can be "in kind" for value of

the property and other considerations furnished by the City. It was further

noted that certain executed documents and affidavits would be required of the

City, through City Manager Noland, should the application for Federal funds be

approved and should Council agree to the terms of a contract (yet to be submitted)

by which, among other things, the City might be committed to reserving the property

for a specified number of years for the purpose hereinbefore set forth. Upon

motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized the filing of an

application for Federal funds for this project.

Council acknowledged receipt of--and referred to the Planning Commission for

its consideration and recommendation--a petition filed by Martinsville Travel,

Inc., requesting the rezoning of its property at 16 Starling Avenue from

"R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional" which, if approved, would allow petitioner

to operate its business (now located in Patrick Henry Mall) at 16 Starling Avenue.

Council also acknowledged receipt of--and referred to the Planning Commission

for its consideration and recommendation--a petition filed by DeShazo Oil

Company, Inc., requesting the rezoning of its property (identified as Lot No.

50, Section 32, on the City's Tax Map) at the intersection of Railroad and Bridge

'C..~..,._,"<".....~M<~"_'",,______"_""-"_~~__~~_'~_"'''''''''"'"'''~._----"_.~._.~,,~,,~...-"...,~,"._---,
