<br />~: '~~~t /~ <br />,nJi ':t <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 10, 1976 <br /> <br />on July 27, 1976, to para1lel--as to the City's Electric Utility <br />customers--the rates charged for the consumption of electricity <br />by the Appalachian Power Company to its jurisdictional customers, <br />pursuant to rates and tariffs approved for said Appalachian Power <br />Company by the State Corporation Commission; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session held on August 10, 1976, that the <br />rates charged by the City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia, to its <br />customers for the consumption of electricity shall be the <br />same as those prescribed by the applicable State Corporation <br />Commission tariffs in effect for Appalachian Power Company <br />until such time as this ordinance is either rescinded or <br />amended; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that there shall be <br />added to said rates or charges, wherever applicable, the <br />surcharge approved by the State Corporation for Appalachian <br />Power Company, effective August 1, 1976; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that an emergency <br />exists and that this ordinance shall take effect on and <br />after its passage on August 10, 1976. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized the <br /> <br />transfer of the sum of $1,000.00 from its General Fund Emergency Account to <br /> <br />the City's General District Court budget, to provide necessary funds required <br /> <br />by the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals to supplement the 1976-77 salary of <br /> <br />Judge Kenneth M. Covington, said sum having been omitted from the initial <br /> <br />1976-77 City Budget because it was thought at that time that this supplement <br /> <br />requirement had been phased out by the State of Virginia. <br /> <br />Mrs. John L. Manson and Mr. Curtis F. Bouldin, representing the Piedmont Seniors <br /> <br />of Virginia, Inc., appeared before Council and reviewed with Council an operating <br /> <br />plan for this organization for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1976, as well <br /> <br />as the need for Council's formal action on a proposed contract to be prepared <br /> <br />and returned to Council. Also described was a nutrition program for elderly <br />
