<br />;.--. .J! <br /> <br />~.' _l.. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 13, 1976 <br /> <br />~,-- <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session held on July 13, 1976, that the <br />Martinsvil1e City Fire Code be, and the same hereby is, <br />amended, by adding thereto the BOCA Basic Fire Prevention <br />Code, 1975, and all appendices thereto, specifically including, <br />but not limited to, Appendix B thereto, a copy of which Code <br />and all appendices thereto is attached hereto and incorporated <br />into this ordinance by reference as if it were set forth herein <br />verbatim; and, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that there be added to said BOCA Basic <br />Fire Prevention Code, 1975, at page 35 thereof Section F-409.l, <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />F-409.l In Required Access for Fire Apparatus. All premises <br />which the Fire Department may be called upon to protect in <br />case of fire and which are not readily accessible from <br />public roads shall be provided with suitable gates, access <br />roads, and fire lanes so that all buildings on the premises <br />are accessible to fire apparatus. Fire lanes shall be <br />provided for all buildings which are set back more than <br />150 feet from a public road or exceed thirty feet in <br />height and are set back over 50 feet from a public road. <br />Fire lanes shall be at least twenty feet in width with <br />the road edge closest to the building at least ten feet <br />from the building. Any dead-end road more than 300 feet <br />long shall be provided with a turn-around at the closed <br />end at least 90 feet in diameter. <br /> <br />A written document, agreeable to the Fire Official and <br />for the benefit of the jurisdiction, shall be required for <br />emergency access over all fire lanes. <br /> <br />The designation and maintenance of fire lanes on private <br />property shall be accomplished as specified by the Fire <br />Official. It shall be unlawful for any person to park <br />motor vehicles on, or otherwise obstruct, any fire lane. <br /> <br />When any combination of private fire protection <br />facilities, including, but not limited to, fire resistive <br />roofs, fire separation walls, space separation and automatic <br />fire extinguishing systems, are provided and approved by the <br />Fire Official as an acceptable alternate, this Section shall <br />not apply. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that this ordinance (and <br />amendment) shall become effective on and after August 1, 1976. <br />
