Cl;O\ ~ tJ " TUESDAY DECEMBER 30, 1975 Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following ordinance providing for the adoption by the City of the 1975 edition of the Uniform Statewide Building Code, effective January 1, 1976: 1VHEREAS, Section 36-98 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended, directed and empowered the State Board of Housing to adopt and promulgate a Uniform Statewide Building Code to supercede the existing building codes and regulations of the counties, municipalities, and State agencies; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to the authority of Section 36-98, as aforesaid, the State Board of Housing has adopted and promulgated a Uniform Statewide Building Code; and, WHEREAS, Section 36-101 of said Code provides that said 1975 Edition of the Uniform Statewide Building Code shall become effective on January 1, 1976; and, WHEREAS, Section 36-105 of said Code provides that enforcement of the Uniform Statewide Building Code shall be the responsibility of the local building department; now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session held on December 30, 1975: (1) That the 1975 Edition of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code be, and the same hereby is, adopted by reference as a general ordinance of the City of Martinsville; however, it shall not be necessary for the Clerk of the Council to copy into the Ordinances and the Council Minutes Books of the City said Uniform Statewide Building Code, bu~ there shall be maintained in the office of the City Building Official a copy of said Code for public inspection; (2) That, an emergency existing, the provlslons of said Uniform Statewide Building Code shall take effect on and after January 1, 1976; (3) That the Building Code of Martinsville, 1967, as amended, the Martinsville Plumbing Code, the Martinsville Electrical Code, and all ordinances of a general nature in conflict with said Uniform Statewide Building Code are hereby repealed as of January 1, 1976, except that the chapters in the Building Code of Martinsville 1967, and in the Martinsville Plumbing Code, and in the Martinsville Electrical Code, relating to and entitled "Administration" are retained in effect, and are amended to the extent that wherever the words "Southern Building Code" appear in said chapters relating to administration there shall be substituted in their place and stead the words "Uniform Statewide Building Code";
