1G

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 14, 1975

--

,-'

has incurred unanticipated expenses of some $30,000.00; however, with Board-directed

revisions of the adopted 1975-76 School Budget, the Board expects to curtail

other expenditures by some $69,400.00, leaving an anticipated deficit of $40,220.00

to be financed locally. Council took this matter under consideration, pending

receipt in the near future of a financial statement covering the City's operations

for the quarter ended September 30, 1975. Meanwhile, Council indicated that it

wishes to cooperate with the School Board in this matter, as it has in others in

past years, in every way possible.

..-

Upon being informed by City Manager Noland that the Federal Government, through

the appropriate State agency, has allocated $84,343.00 in additional CETA funds

through June 30, 1976 under Title II of the CETA program, Council accepted the

allocation, with usage of such funds to be recommended by City Manager Noland to

Council at its next regular meeting, particularly as to the exploration of using

some of these funds for local school personnel as well as for local Police and

Recreation Departmental personnel. Meanwhile, upon request of Mr. Benjamin R. Gardner,

Attorney at Law, on behalf of the Farmers Home Administration, Council agreed to

finance--through CETA funds--the salary of one employee (requested for a limited

period of time) to help staff a proposed local FHA office. Also, from separate

funds, Council agreed to contribute one-half of the monthly rental for such an

office, up to $75.00 per month.

To accommodate a request filed by Mr. Robert McMillan, Director of the

Martinsville High School Band, and to accommodate future requests and situations
