<br />G4 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 14, 1975 <br /> <br />of like nature, Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance amending <br /> <br />Section 11-18 (Fireworks) of the City Code, whereby--under certain <br /> <br />circumstances and with the permission of the City Manager--the storing, <br /> <br />exhibiting, selling, shooting and/or exploding of certain fireworks or <br /> <br />firecrackers will be permitted: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting held this fourteenth day of <br />October, 1975, that Section 11-18 of the Code of the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia (1971, and as amended), be and is <br />hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />It shall be unlawful for any person, without the <br />written permission of the City Manager, to possess, <br />store, exhibit, sell, shoot or explode any firecrackers, <br />cherry bombs, Roman candles, torpedoes or other type <br />of fireworks within the City of Martinsville. The <br />permission of the City Manager shall be granted only <br />upon a written application therefor, and only in <br />connection with the public observance of national, <br />state or local holidays, or in connection with the <br />public commemoration of historical events of national, <br />state or local significance, and only if the City <br />Manager shall be satisified that the granting of <br />such permission shall not endanger the public health, <br />safety or welfare. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that an emergency exists <br />and that the effective date of this ordinance shall be October 14, <br />1975. <br /> <br />Pursuant to request of Mrs. J. W. (Sallie M.) Clark, in connection with her acting <br /> <br />as a charitable organization entitled "City Beautiful", as authorized by <br /> <br />Council on April 22, 1975, Council agreed to provide a designated telephone in <br /> <br />City Hall through which official business calls may be received for Mrs. Clark <br /> <br />and, also, to include Mrs. Clark under the City's workmen's compensation or <br /> <br />liability insurance provisions, if such is possible. <br />
