<br />(\ i) <br />...\) ~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 14, 1975 <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Hobson, Council voted to participate in said program, the vote being: <br /> <br />in the affirmative, Councilman Greene, Vice-Mayor Hobson, and Mayor Boaz; <br /> <br />and in the negative, Councilmen Lester and Fitz-Hugh. <br /> <br />Council continued for further study, pending receipt of additional pertinent <br /> <br />information, a request filed by The First National Bank of Martinsville & Henry <br /> <br />County for a refund of property taxes paid by said bank over the last seven <br /> <br />years predicated on alledged erroneous and/or over-assessments by the City, <br /> <br />subject to enactment by Council (under enabling legislation within the State <br /> <br />statutes) of an appropriate ordinance or resolution extending the present time <br /> <br />limit for such refunds. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the Planning Commission, Council scheduled for consideration <br /> <br />proposed amendments to Section II and Section IX (Paragraph B) of the City's Zoning <br /> <br />Ordinance, by the adding thereto definitions and specifications pertaining to <br /> <br />shopping centers and/or shopping malls, with a duly-advertised public hearing to be <br /> <br />conducted by Council on these proposed amendments at Council's forthcoming November 11th <br /> <br />meeting or, if November 11th is observed by Council as a legal holiday, at its <br /> <br />forthcoming November 25th meeting. <br /> <br />Members of the City School Board, with School Superintendent John D. Richmond <br /> <br />as spokesman, informed the Council that--as a result of a directive recently issued <br /> <br />by The Honorable Mills Godwin, Governor of Virginia--the income from the <br /> <br />Commonwealth of Virginia during fiscal 1975-76 for the local public school system <br /> <br />will be $79,620.00 less than anticipated. <br /> <br />In addition, the local School Board <br />
