r~", J,
!. . /.'.
C'

THURSDAY

JUNE 19, 1975

Citizens present and speaking on various aspects of the proposed 1975-76

budget, and a summary of their comments and/or questions, uere:

(1) Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr., Realtor -- asked for the
number of present City employees compared with the
number in past years, and inquired as to what the
nominal rate on real estate would be required in
1975-76 to produce the same income as for 1974-75;
also, advocated reducing out-of-town travel and
eliminating telephones and like expenses when
possible;
(2) Mrs. Virginia Hall, of 1609 Sam Lion Trail -- pointed
out the real estate tax increase on her property,
resulting from the recent reappraisal, at a proposed
or retained tax rate;
(3) Mr. Robert N. Crockett, of 1007 Mountain Road --
emphasized the increase in valuation of real estate,
resulting from the recent reappraisal;
(4) Mr. Joseph Pritchett, of 1203 Maxine Road --
advocated the obtaining of Federal aid, such as
Community Development funds, to reduce the local
tax burden;
(5) Mr. R. M. L. Griggs, of 1319 Chatham Heights -- pointed
to anticipated as well as current problems relating
to curtailed garbage collection service; expressed
disappointment that the proposed budget reflects no
additional consideration for the senior citizens and,
although appreciative of the real estate tax relief
policy already in effect, advocated additional relief
in this area as well as on utility bills;
(8) Mrs. Iris Holland (address not known) -- took exception
to reports of prompt police department service and to
the qualification requirements applicable to food stamps;
